BED Commissions Hold an Online Team Chairpersons Retooling
The three Basic Education Commissions conducted a half-day online retooling session for team chairpersons onJuly 18, 2026, via Zoom. Entitled“Chairing with Consistency: Recalibrating 91Team Chairpersons on Process, Judgment, and Report Quality”, the activity brought together51 team chairpersonsto strengthen their shared understanding of accreditation processes, professional judgment, and report writing.
Mr. Ricardo Palo, Executive Director, opened the program by emphasizing the pivotal role of team chairpersons in advancing PAASCU’s mission. He underscored that team chairs are entrusted with translating accreditation standards into sound professional judgment, guiding survey teams throughout the accreditation process, and ensuring that PAASCU’s practices remain fair, consistent, and credible. He also expressed his appreciation for the participants’ continued commitment to quality assurance and excellence in accreditation.
The first session, “One Standard, One Process, One Team: Recalibrating the Chairperson’s Role”, facilitated byDr. Monina Manalang, Chair of the Basic Education Commission, focused on the roles and responsibilities of team chairpersons. She highlighted the leadership role of team chairs in ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of accreditation visits, emphasizing the importance of preparation, collaboration, and objective decision-making.
The second session, “From Evidence to Judgment: Calibrating Ratings, Commendations and Recommendations, and Decision Logic”, was presented byMr. Ringo Blanca, Chair of the Secondary Education Commission, who discussed the development of accreditation narratives, the determination of ratings, and the preparation of commendations and recommendations. He stressed that accreditation reports serve as the lasting impression left with schools and stand as tangible evidence of PAASCU’s integrity, objectivity, and professionalism.
The final session, “Chairing in the Real World: Challenges, Pitfalls, and Best Practices”, was led byMr. Rafael Patrick Pecjo, Chair of the Elementary Education Commission. Addressing comments and suggestions gathered from team chairpersons, he discussed key concerns related to report-writing consistency, technical requirements, professional relationships, appropriate boundaries, and established protocols in accreditation work.
The program concluded with a synthesis delivered byMs. Ana Hernandez, who reflected on the key insights from the three sessions. She described the retooling as “a gift of growth” for all participants and encouraged team chairpersons to carry these learnings into future accreditation visits. As a closing activity, participants shared one chairing practice they committed to standardizing in their future engagements, a collective pledge to uphold quality, consistency, and excellence in every 91survey.
